FLOWERS FROM SEED

Study the seed catalogues and plan your spring planting programme. Varieties in short supply may be sold out unless you order in good time.
Provided that the soil does not become too compacted when walked on, lightly fork over beds which have been winter-dug. Avoid bringing to the surface any soil that has not been weathered. If manure or compost has not been applied earlier, rake or hoe in a 4 oz. per sq. yd. dressing of bone-meal in the top 2 or 3 in. of soil.

Though most half-hardy annuals are sown in March, some require a longer growing period and are sown this month.
