FRUIT
Continue to plant if soil conditions are suitable, otherwise store the trees where they will not be harmed by frost.
Continue pruning, except when there are hard night frosts.
Peach and nectarine. Prune newly planted fan-trained trees by cutting back shoots to 12-18 in.
Spray with copper fungicide or lime sulphur at bud-swelling stage against peach leaf curl.
Plume and Damson Cherry. Prune newly planted fan-trained trees in the same way as peach.
Raspberry. Prune established autumn-fruiting varieties close to the ground before spring.
Strawberry. In the second half of the month place cloches over plants which have been planted for early fruiting.
If they are covered earlier, leaves rather than fruit will be encouraged.
