Attend to the drainage around stools in the open ground.
Keep the beds clear of weeds. groundsel, chickweed and docks are particularly dangerous, as they are host plants for chrysanthemum eelworm.
Tread ground loosened by frost to re-firm it around the roots.
Destroy slugs. Scatter slug pellets around plants in the open ground and in frames.
Choose a weather-resistant brand, or protect from the rain with an upturned box or a slate supported by bricks.
Under glass
Maintain a cool, ventilated atmosphere.
Keep the stools just moist but avoid over-watering.
Propagate greenhouse decorative's throughout the month.
Single and anemone-centred types will also be ready towards the end of the month.
Inspect exhibition plants. Keep a close watch on large exhibition plants which are in 3½ in. pots as they dry out very quickly on sunny days.
Pot any remaining exhibition plants.
prepare space in a cold frame for the potted plants: a base of gravel over plantex to stop weeds coming up and you can push the pots into stones to keep the pots level.
Ventilate frames. Scatter slug bait in the frame before putting in the pots.
Remove stupefied or dead slugs after the bait has been down for 24 hours.
Ventilate the frame o prevent drops of moisture accumulating on the underside of the glass.
